The Best Defensive Player Aaron Donald Joins 99 Club
Aaron Donald is the best defensive player in football, and he's officially rated a 99 in Madden NFL 20.
Donald, 28, has been absolutely dominant in his career. Last season, he registered 59 tackles, 20.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, historically incredible numbers for an interior defensive lineman.
Not surprisingly, Pro Football Focus ranked him as the best player in all of football, offense or defense, last season:
"In the 2018 NFL season there really is no question who the best player in the game was, and what is remarkable is that he took his game to another level from an already ridiculous starting point. Donald was the single most destructive force in the game from his interior alignment on the Rams defensive line, earning an overall PFF grade of 95.2 and recording a staggering 113 quarterback pressures, both the best marks of any player in the league."
Awards of Aaron Donald:
Associated Press NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2017, 2018)
Pro Football Writers Association NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2018)
Kansas City Committee of 101 NFC Defensive Player of the Year (2017, 2018)
NFL sacks leader/Deacon Jones Award (2018)
Ranked No. 92 in the Top 100 Players of 2015
Ranked No. 14 in the Top 100 Players of 2016
Ranked No. 15 in the Top 100 Players of 2017
Ranked No. 7 in the Top 100 Players of 2018
NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (2014)
PFWA All-Rookie Team (2014)
College Career
As a true freshman, Donald played in all 13 games as a reserve defensive end. He recorded 11 tackles, including three for loss, and two sacks. In 2011, as a sophomore, Donald moved into the starting lineup and turned in a breakout campaign. He recorded 47 tackles, including 16 for loss, 11 sacks, and one forced fumble, and was named a second-team All-Big East selection. As a junior, he recorded 64 tackles, including 18.5 for loss, 5.5 sacks, and one forced fumble, earning first-team All-Big East honors. In his senior season, he became one of the most productive defensive players in the entire NCAA. He posted 59 tackles, including a career-best 28.5 for loss, 11 sacks, and four forced fumbles. He was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous All-American.
Donald has the third-most sacks in football since entering the league in 2014, trailing only Von Miller and Ryan Kerrigan during that time period. His 149 quarterback hits since 2014, meanwhile, lead all players.
For Madden players, having a dominant interior force will hamper your opponent's running game and allow you to generate pressure up the middle, which is always difficult to deal with. In both the real and digital worlds, Donald is a force of nature.
